Shoot 7

For this shoot we went to Georges house in Keighley and for this shoot we had some of the footage from the care home to film and a scene of the old man on the DJ decks and we managed through some set dressing to be able to achieve the realistic view of a club scene. However we did come up against a minor hurdle along the way due to us not being able to gain access to the care home we did however manage to get the 'club' scene filmed so it was a beneficial shoot

Audience Feedback 4

Below is the audience feedback we were given by our media teacher as well as useful points from the class. This helped us with the creation process as it was vital element to improving our video. With the feedback we then made changed and adjusted the video to fit the points given by the other students and teacher.

Shoot 6

For this shoot we finally went to the care home and shot the scene that was needed from the care home to add continuity to our music video and improve the narrative of the music video. Where by the narrative can start now at the care home which was planned and then it can also end at the care home to add and fit in with the Altman theory of intellectual puzzles where by it leaves the video on a sort of a lift hanger.

We came up against a few problems when shooting at the care home and these problems were that we had to wait an hour to eventually get in due to the care home not being suitable at that time in the room that we wanted to shoot in. Also we had the factor of the rain in the windows which wasn't on previous shots so we had to wait until it had stopped raining for us to do the shoot and then when we did start shooting we realised that there was a slight slit in the masks mouth so with the framing and placement of the character we managed to get that sorted.

We did however manage to do some set dressing where by we manipulated to chair in the care home to be able to be looking at the TV in the room so we could then use an idea of putting some relevant images on the screen when editing the footage.

Audience Feedback 3

Below is another audience feedback  given by our media teacher, class students and a second media teacher. This helped us again with the creation process as it was vital element to improving our video. With the feedback we then made changed and adjusted the video to fit the points given by the other students and teacher.

Shoot 5

For this shoot we went into Ilkley to shoot the remaining footage needed to develop a full rough cut and for this we used the locations which were Ilkley town centre, Keighley and also various parts of Leeds such as the trinity center and briggate. We took into consideration the light and how it wouldn't be the same as the light on the other shoots so we had to add slight effects when editing the sequence where by we added a few minor tints to the screen.

I feel that this shoot was rather successful as we got a lot of the major dancing footage shot and this will then help us with the amount that we did shoot to create a decent enough rough cut to get some feedback on from our target audience and peers a like and for somewhat of our secondary audience. In this shoot we got lots of shot variety and good use of the different settings to cause that sense of verisimilitude and diversity which all good music videos need to have within them
However in this shoot we did not get the care home scene filmed due to it being unavailable for our use at this time

So we have now devised another time for us to film this key part of our music video. We also feel that the way our editing is going we have developed a minor narrative to our music video rather than predominantly a performance and dance based video which we will be able to achieve when we do film these vital scenes from the care home.

Shoot 4

In this shoot we went to Leeds to shoot this time. We managed to get a lot filmed on the train and at the station on the way there and on the way back. And on this shoot we managed to get most of the dancing scenes done. This was key due to the public reactions which the old man got whilst he was dancing in the streets. This adds to the verisimilitude of the music video and adds a sense of realism to the video. However on this shoot we didn't manage to gather images of the shoot but we have enough footage for the video its self so we will be able to assemble a good rough cut to put together to gather enough audience feedback.

Also on this shoot we managed to add different effects to the camera so that the filming of this would increase the uses of technology used and editing techniques used to achieve a greater grade and sense of what we would need to hoot on the next shoot where by we would analyse the footage shot and decide from there.

However for the next shoot that we do we will need to get the footage of the care home done and the footage of some more dancing in and around some urban areas so then it follows the original artists themes and his type of editing and specifics.

Shoot 3

For shoot 3 we ended up filming in Ilkley instead of Leeds due to the poor weather conditions leaning that it was hard for us to get to Leeds so we had to make do with the locations that we already had which was Ilkley however we shot some good footage and managed to manipulate the film that we got and took to create.

On this shoot we gathered footage for the scenes of the park scenes and the town scenes for this we needed the main character to come and help us out however we had to change the character due to the original one not being able to help us out due to other commitments in school. The new character was the same sort of build and height so it worked out well however you can tell by the way the characters walk that it is a different.

Another problem which we came up against was the fact that we didn't have a tripod in this shoot so most of the shots were shaky but we have edified this footage well so it now looks like there isn't any shaky cam footage at all. Also another good point was that we managed to get a lot of footage which shows more variety in our work so it helped the continuity of the music video and achieves verisimilitude.

Snoop Dogg ft Dr. Dre - Kush

ACT: Snoop Dogg ft Dr. Dre
TRACK: Kush
Year: 2010
Director:
Genre: Hip Hop
Main Audience: 15-27

1) The pace of this song really works with the shot variation and how it is slow to represent the songs tune and pace
2) The dress and costume of which the characters are in goes well with the dull dark backgrounds of the setting and locations which enhance the reading
3) The locations and settings go really well with the laid back tune and signifies the music video and shot selection were done very carefully

Kid Cudi - Day N' nite

ACT: Kid Cudi
TRACK: Day N' Nite
Year: 2012
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21

1) The pace of the song and how it has been edited works well with the amount of shots used to signify what is happening on screen
2) The use of different locations works well and again people can relate to them as they are common public places to go to
3) The Star performer being the artist in this case is the main figure throughout the whole music vidoe and is shown in every single shot which makes the viewers who are big fans want to watch it again and again

Nicky Romero - Toulouse

TRACK: Toulouse
Year: 2012
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21

Music Video:

1) The use of maks in this video makes it stand out to the audience and catches theyre eye and will make them remember the video and this is a way of creating an image for the song which is good
2) The use of the street location means that the audience can relate to the settings which it has been shot in so it makes it more appealing to the viewers
3) How the narrative is done makes the video a touch unbeliveable however i feel that the way it has been shot does look good when watching it

BB Lana Del Yay ft. Cedric Gervais (MK Remix) - SummerTime Sadness

Track: Summertime Sadness
Artist: Lana Del Yay ft. Cedric Gervais (MK Remix)
Year: 2013
Genre: House
Director:
Music Video:

The three main points and conventions which I have seen in this video that is a common factor in the music videos from the house genre are as followed.

1) The video has a range of different coloured lighting effects used throughout the entire video which enhances the verisimilitude of the production also it encourages the genre and the music to fit with the moving images in the background.

2) Also this visor has a wide range of performance and concept theories towards it where by not all of the video is performed based but when it is it works well with the lip syncing of the main character in this video and also when this isn't happening it shows a good way of adapting the video to make it more eye catching to the viewers

3) And finally this video includes many references to the words and lyrics which are being sung or said on screen which I feel has a a massive effect on how the readers and viewers see the video and it determines what the viewers preferred reading is and how it stands with them.

Eurogroove- Move your body

Track: Move your Body
Artist: Eurogroove
Year: Unknown
Genre: House
Director: Unknown
Music Video:

1) This music video works well with the way it uses the slow motion effect where by for some or most of the dancing scenes you are watching the performance however the slow motion effect has been added to add more emphasis onto the movement and body compositions during the dancing scenes

2) Secondly the way the music video is edited is so that at the parts of the song where the music and tempo of the song are fast and very sort of energetic then the editing of it is fast and very jumpy, compared to when it is slow and there are long drawn out shots and this is quite effective and we would be looking to send something like this in our production of music video

3) The final point of this music video is at the start of it you see the setting as a train station which is a bit of an obscure setting to start a music video of this genre in which is why it makes the video unique where by it grabs the viewers attention straight away which means that people will want to watch it til the end and we feel that we should do a similar thing in our production.

JK- You and I

Track: You and I
Artist: JK
Year:  1994
Genre: House
Director: Unknown
Music Video:

1) This video shows a concept or theory which was created by Laura Mulvey which was the Male Gaze theory where by it was said that the female body was objectified where by it was turned into an object just to attract a male audience for example in this video we see te main singer in it wearing a very revieling item of clothing and this is to attract a male audience.

2) Another convention seen in this video is the way the fast pace editing and the flashing cutting transitions inter cut with one another as this is a very effective way of changing the camera shot and the various different angles used to create a sense of realism and verisimilitude

3) The final point of this music video is the way the setting throughout the whole of the video stays the same and this is a way of subjecting the viewers to one setting and doesn't reviel too much about the song but it makes the character more of a main thing rather than the settin unless it is tied into the song title or lyrics

Sub Focus (MK Remix) - Turn it Around

Track: Turn it Around
Artist: Sub Focus (MK Remix)
Year: 2013
Genre: House
Director:
Music Video:

1) The first point or convention would be the way the song or video follows a single person through a type of journey or a path which they go down to seek something, this is the narrative theory to a music video and we are looking to do suh thing for our own video so I feel that this is a good example to look at when taking into consideration what types of things to put into our own video

2) Another point is the use of the words linking into what is shown on the screen at that moment for example in this music video when the lyrics turn it around are sung then the main character on screen does actually turn around and this can also be of very much use to our music video too due to us having this in our ideas

3) And the final point on this music video that I have highlighted I the way in which a night club is used when the beat drops and the music changes which we also were thinking to do in our own music video due to this factor being a really common convention in house music videos

Shoot 2

For our second shoot we went to the park to get some footage for scene 3 where by the character of the old man would be in the park enjoying his day whilst others, Eg the public walked past not taking any notice of him. We have yet to get feed back from the shot sequence which we have shot on this scene and we have just a few steps to edit before it is finished and due feedback

A couple of challenges we faced were the face that when we wanted some shots of public reactions, there were not people about to get some actual footage of this happening, Also another problem we faced was that when we took some footage of the sky and the clouds moving for a time lapse was that we got some shots of people in the camera which we could have done without, so in terms of editing, then we will have to get rid of this.

The Character of the shoot was Georges mate Harry and we feel that he is a good character to have for the shoot due to his head fitting the mask well and him having the old man clothes too so it works best for us that he will be the main character of the old man

This is some footage which we shot on the shoot to highlight some of the aspects which might need changing and worked well for us.

Magazine ad 1 RC1

This is our first draft of our first magazine at which we have to produce as an ancillary text for our coursework, we have gone with the storm queen theme for the title and we have also added a QR code to the ad which links to our twitter feed on twitter.

Digipak RC1

This is our first rough cut of the digipak package and this has been created through the research that we have done into digipaks and into the the specific digipaks of our genre. we have also looked at many examples of digipaks which have been done by the artist Storm Queen and the ones by the Remixer MK. So here is the drafted copy.

Magazine ad 2 RC1

This is our other magazine ad and this is also counted as an ancillary text for our coursework. For this one we have included a QR code also we have to add specific tour dates for this. However at the moment this is just a draft to gain some feedback on

Research into the House Genre TBC

House music originated in America in the early 1980's in the American city or Chicago. Early house music was generally dance-based music characterized by repetitive beats over and over again which meant that the repetitive rhythm of house was more important than the song itself. House music today, while keeping several of these core elements has changed drastically where by now you get less vocals used in the songs and when you do get some lyrics its only either for a short length of time or is repeated over and over again.

House music also varies a lot in style and choice range, which ranges from the soulful and atmospheric deep house to the more quite slow moving house. Today house music is getting more and more popular and this first started out when iconic pop artists at the time liked and linked their music talents up with some of the house DJ's to collaberate mixes. Some of these artists such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Björk, Aretha Franklin and Steps all found them selfs mixing into the house genre at the early stages of its existance.

Vinyl Cover for our Track TBC

We have also decided to an added vinyl for our song this is the finished product for the first draft this will include a vinyl and the casing of the vinyl. This is the outside covers for it so far. However we are not too sure weather this will work due to it not being the type of thing that is relavent to out genre ad it doesn't suit the style and types and conventions what would be acceptable to our genre also.

Genre Specific Magazine ads

Magazine ads from the house genres common codes and conventions starts with common colors such as black back grounds with various different colored images on top of that usually neon colored and bright lighted. Also they have usually got on them QR code as and various different website addresses and social media links such as Facebook twitter and sometimes instagram which is becoming more common today.
Another key feature which you will see on the magazine adverts from the house genre is the tour dates of clubs and venues which the act is playing at and usually with the genre there are various artists appearing on that date at the venue as a sort of side act so sort of undiscovered DJ's who will sideline the main act. We will use this in our magazine ads so that it adds verisimilitude to the adverts.

As you can see from this madeon ad the dark theme is used to emphasize the colors and title of the act and the dates of where and when the event is on at. Another common feature of magazine ads for this genre is the movie themed titles which head the advert so that it stands out on the page more and is appealing yo the viewers. So we will be following these credentials to achieve the genre specific convention.

Magazine Ads Research

The main image on the magazine advert should follow the same colours and image themes as the album cover this is usually seen due to the images been taken for the album cover and the magazine ad are similar in many ways due to them usually be taken on the same shoot as each other. However the image on the magazine ad is different in some ways for example the image has been enhanced or only a proportion of the image is used of the same mage and it follows the same colour patterns of the album cover artwork.

The largest text on the magazine ad will be the artists name and commonly the second largest text will be the albums name or title and usually features below the artists name on the page and usually the advert will have an 'includes' list somewhere on the image and there will be a popular track list on the advert too sometimes with a bonus track added in there too.  What is also very common in the way that some digipaks have the artists image or bands image on the front cover of the album as well as the inside of it for example this one of wretch 32, this is a good way of presenting the digipak but we feel that this idea doesn't
suit the style of our artist or genre.

Twitter Page TBC

Our Twitter page is where we post some of the new things tried out and images and videos of the filming that we have done and some of the comments which we get on there can be used as external feedback from wider sources and can then use this feedback to enhance our rough cuts and get more ideas on how to change or adapt the ideas which we have already used.

We get specific feedback from those who know a lot about the music video business and therefore can only benefit us when gaining such feedback. We feel that having a twitter account will also make our knowledge of the genre and the track much better by getting specific feedback from people and followers who like the type of music and the track we are doing our coursework on.
These are images of the various tweets which we have added up to the page

Evaluation Question 4 TBC

Research and Planning

For the research and planning of our coursework we used many different technologies to achieve such levels these technologies consist of Blogger, Facebook, Youtube, IMDB, Twitter, USB Sticks, Mac Computers, Gmail, Mobile Phones, Final Cut, Grab and Google.

Blogger is the place where all the information goes on how we progress and share what we have found in terms of research and the process of making some footage of the putting together of our music Video also all the vodcasts and podcasts of how the process of how our coursework is going.

Youtube is a very good and useful place to get video clips to compare and to post video's of how the progress of the music video making is going also we can share and embed previous video's of what are relevant to the subject for example video's of already successful Music Videos and other Viral Vids too

IMDB is the place which provides the most relevant information for music video creating and what sorts of things come from old already made videos and newly up to date ones which are very successful, IMDB is a online website which lets you look up any music video and director or any film and their casts. This is ideal for when we are researching or analysing past music videos.

Final cut pro is where the footage of the filming gets edited. This is the sort of technology that the pro directors and production company's use for music video creation in the world wide industries. It just shows how the world has been subjected to digitalisation and it benefits the people like us who do not have a lot of funding to produce the hugely successful videos.

HD Video camera's that we use to shoot the footage for our music Videos are so high tech that major producers didnt even use them about 10 years ago and they are more advanced than the one's they used back then. They provide us with an endless amount of opportunity to shoot the key footage and right frames to put our music videos together and with only an SD card as the storage device it is so much cheaper than the huge industry ones.

Audience Feedback from RC 1

From our first rough cut we have gained some feedback on which we have thought about and considered changing from our first cut. Some of these changes are experiments such as editing and others are changes that for sure need to happen due to the lack of footage in some areas so more shot variety is needed in some key areas
Feedback comments from sources of our target audience:

Steady Shots
Negatives
  • Start on the train in between the chairs is shaky and needs to be edited
  • When the old man is walking past the shops with the walking stick in hand
  • Club scenes are shaky but it has a good effect in a way but shouldn't be used as much
Positives
  • Didn't see an unsteady shot and would be excellent if the nightclub shots were reasonably steady and if the shakiness was on purpose
  • Steady shots throughout an all round good performance
  • Good steady shots when the break dancing is in Slow-Mo
Framing
Negatives
  • End shot feet were out of the way and ruined the shot
  • The dropping the tissues didn't exactly work that well so maybe another angle or frame for that one
  • Dancing in the streets the framing was off due to the walls being too much in shot
  • Average and some good shots
Positives
  • The framing in the break dancing in the streets worked really well and was a good use of the urban environmental view to the song.
  • The break dancing with the dutch angle worked extremely well
  • Good use of the framing with the police car in the shots
Shot Variety
Negatives
  • Close ups needed of the iconic features of the old man
  • More long shots and extreme close ups of the dancing scenes and in the club scenes
  • More shots needed of the old man in the normal old man mode
Positives
  • Alot of good shot variety within the whole video
  • Good shot variety and a good range of different angles and locations
  • Good use of shot variety in the urban town area and the dancing but needs a bit more maybe
Appropriate Material
Negatives
  • People looking at the camera at the zebra crossing and all the cars at the begining
  • Need shots of the old man in the club to show the narrative continuity only one shot of being ignored need more
  • Not convincing that he is an old man
  • Club scene is too early
Positives
  • The club scene worked well with the mad party thing
  • Suited the style and genre of the music and the style of the original artist
  • Works well and most of it makes sense and you get some sense of verisimilitude
Mise-en-Scene
Negatives
  • Seems like two videos in the club and in the street
  • Verisimilitude lost on the type of shoes used
  • Trousers seem different with the lightings of the weather
  • People looking at the camera from the public
Positives
  • The club scene works well and suits the style of the videos and son choice
  • The mise en scene from the sort of urban town feel works well
  • The way in which the character is in a lot of random different locations works well
